If i call and follow up @ NVC, would my lawyer know? Because they told me to stop calling nvc for follow up- if we still want them to represent us.

No, the lawyer won't know. I think they're trying to control your updates or whatsoever. As long as you have your receipt number, you can always check for updates with NVC on the progress (at reasonable time frames,of course). Whose email address and/or contact number were written on the G-1145, btw?

Yeah, if you guys have a simple case (and sorry to say this), lawyers are just receiving unnecessary compensation. I don't see any reason why you guys can't proceed on your own.

u from Phils? :)

anyways we just didnt want screw ups thats why we got this lawyer, and now here iam in VJ getting all the info we needed.

thanks for the links, so nice of you.

Yep, Filipina here! My husband (then-fiance) also used lawyer services when we filed and I just trusted they knew what they were doing, since I was busy at work anyways. Needless to say, we had RFE, and they expected us to re-use their services. I discovered VJ 8 months late. If I only knew then ... Well, just consider yourself lucky! :) And if you have any concerns, there are lots of helpful people here, and of course, I'm a just a PM away. Though not really familiar with IR-1/CR-1, I only know of some basic stuff. Happy to help!

If you're not happy with the level of service your lawyer provides -- you can fire them.

yes, fire the lawyer or call their firm every hour so he will stop representing you. Your just throwing money away. I decided to do it myself and now my wife is here in Ohio by my side.

We can now use that money to take a vacation instead or create her bank account

You're welcome.

At what stage is your case in the process?

  • Has the AOS bill been paid?
  • Has the AOS package been mailed?
  • Has the IV bill been paid and civil documents submitted?

Looking at your timeline with a late January approval and the case transferred to NVC in early Feb -- you should be done with the medical/interview or worst case scenario -- waiting to interview. Provided you/your husband were diligent with submitting the AOS and IV packages in a speedy manner.

Yes we were doing things in a speedy manner,I have my docs readily available whenever lawyer would ask, since i have been reading here in VJ, I had all the civil docs (ready) and some other stuff they(lawyers office) might ask from us, and will just hand them what they need/ask.

Late approval because we were asked for an RFE.

Right now, we are still waiting for the completion of the review and of course the blessed day for an INTERVIEW that is hopefully will be set soon.

thanks again, it feels better that there're people replying to me who understands and whose been in (bit) similar to my situation.

You see, you are the one doing the heavy work by providing the supporting docs -- and the lawyer is filling in the blanks of forms. Hanging out since Feb to the 3rd week in May is a lot of lost time. Hope your case gets moving soon.

Employing a lawyer for a case like this is the same as flushing money down the toilet. They're taking your money to do something anyone with a 6th grade education can do on their own.
