I got married last month with my wife (she entered this country near the end of January on a 6 month visa) and I am a native born US citizen. I am working on submitting a I-130 and I-485 for my wife.

We are currently in the collection phase of the visa process and we have all the documents we need other than her birth certificate.

I paid $135 for a service from Argentina in Buenos Aires to send us a legal birth certificate near the end of last month, and I am waiting on that and it could take another month to get.

Tomorrow we will get a birth certificate (non legal) from a friend of hers that brought it from Argentina. She told me it has signatures on it, but it's not the same thing as the legal one from Buenos Aires.

My question is, can I use that on the I-485? Or do I need to wait till the legal one gets here?

I ask this because her i-94 expires in the end of July and I am worried about timing.

Thanks!
