Actually with the CR1 the beneficiary is granted a green card upon entry and can work as soon as they want to.

I might not have this right, but I think timus was referring to the year as the processing time for a CR1 *after* marriage (since that seems to be about what it's going for, right now).

All in all, Australia is about a year to get someone over here and working; the K1 is faster for living in the same place, but once you add in the time to process the EAD/AP, it's about a year, which seems to be what the CR1 is running at right now. (Roughly. Really broad generalizations, etc.)
