Hello,

I am a Canadian engaged to an American. I am currently in Hawaii with my fiancé. I have been here for less than 5 months. Do we have time to get married and file any necessary paper work? Or do I need to return to Canada and file for a fiancé visa? Ultimately I would like to marry her ASAP and live with her and then find work in Hawaii.

Is your American a US citizen?

If your American is a US citizen, the get marry and file to adjust status before your 6 months are up.

Follow the Guides.

I'd think that if someone is "an American" then that means that he is a US citizen, lol.

OP, you should apply for the fiance visa and you can apply while being in the US, that's what we did, I am here on a tourist visa and we applied I'm March, got approved I'm April. But you need to be back in your home country for the medical examinations and the interview.
