Hi,

My wife just got approved for CR1 visa. She is going to travel to US next week.

She has received a sealed envelope from the US embassy.

Quick question, when she arrives at the US entry port, does she need to go via visitor line or US/PR line for the immigration?

Can you share your experience as far as what to expect in the immigration?

Any experience that you can share is appreciated.

April 2, 2014: I-130 Filed with Chicago Lockbox

April 7, 2014: Packaged received by USCIS

April 8, 2014: Received NOA 1

Sept. 17, 2014: Received NOA 2. Case APPROVED with no RFEs

Oct. 17, 2014: Case # Assigned by NVC (Same day case was received, according to Julian # calculation)

Oct. 21, 2014: Received letter from NVC

Oct. 22, 2014: DS-261 completed and submitted to NVC

Oct. 31, 2014: Paid AOS invoice


Dec 08, 2014: Sent in IV & AoS packages

Dec 11, 2014: Package received by NVC

Dec 12, 2014: Received email from NVC acknowledging receipt. I assume this is our scan date

Dec 25, 2014: Paid IV bill

Dec 29, 2014: Funds deducted from bank account. DS-260 became available, and was completed

Dec 30, 2014: Submitted DS-260

Feb. 12, 2015: Case Complete with NO checklist! whoot, whoot!

Mar. 25, 2015: Received P4. Interview

April 29,2015: Completed medical examination

Oct. 22, 2015: Travelled to my new home :) (In order to get IR-1 Green Card) Expiration date on IR-1/CR-1 Visa - Oct. 29, 2015

Nov 10, 2015: Received Social Security Card

Jan 4, 2016: LPR Green Card arrived.

She can go to the USC/LPR line. She will not be entering the country as a visitor. Besides she will need to be processed at secondary, so there is no reason for her to wait in the longer and slower visitor line.

It has been a long time coming.

She can go to the USC/LPR line. She will not be entering the country as a visitor. Besides she will need to be processed at secondary, so there is no reason for her to wait in the longer and slower visitor line.

I went to the visitor line but an Immigration Officer spotted my big golden envelope and sent me to the US/PR line which made a big difference in waiting B-)

What questions did they ask? My wife's English is not perfect. I am trying to gather as much information as possible for her so she will be prepared.

It has been a long time coming.

@Gegel, what is secondary? Is this special processing line for immigrant visa holder?

Anytime! Secondary is a further inspection room for those who need it, as is the case of your wife. There she will have her I-551 endorsed, formally becoming a legal permanent resident in the US. She will also hand her file - the envelope she received from the consulate - to the CBP agent.

She will be asked a few questions and if she does not speak much English she can ask for an interpreter. It is no big deal.
