Crossing the border at Detroit with Car.

Hello everyone,

I am planing to drive my car to US with my fiancé cross the border at Detroit in less than 2 weeks.

I am trying to prepare the trip and documents for the custom at the border. However, i am kinda confusing about the required documents for importing the car. I have already got a compliance letter from Toyota, but i am not too sure what else should i need more?

To import my car I brought the compliance letter from Toyota and then a copy of my insurance and registration with the VIN# on it. It's also a good idea to bring an estimated value of your car- they won't charge you anything to import it but they wanted an idea of the value for their paperwork. I used Kelly Blue Book. I think that's all..... the other forms they will have there for you.

Thanks for your advice. is there any custom forms which i can fill them up in advance? so will not get stuck there (POE) for too long?

Make sure the VIN is on all 3 forms, you will take these forms to the DMV to register your vehicle after CBP approves them.

Can I download those forms and fill them up in advance? Or they will provide us the forms with special paper other than our regular sheet?

Yes, the first 2 anyway. The 3rd you will have to do at POE as it's a mystery what goes on it.

Thank you so much for your info. I was kinda frustrated when I was looking at the 3rd. It's kinda weird form I have ever seen and got no idea what to fill up.
