Moroccans

My father is a Moroccan and we were planning to do the paperwork for me to have dual citizenship (moroccan and american). However, i was married in September, also to a Moroccan. Am I still able to recieve dual citizenship through my father or do I now need to go through my husband? Which should i go through if it doesnt matter which one I go through?

If you use your parent filiation (father or mother) you automatically derive citizenship and you can move forward in getting your passport and national ID issued. If you go through your husband you have to physically live in Morocco for two continuous years and obtain residency before you derive nationality by effect of the law. It is up to you but through parents seems faster and you do not have to live there as the citizenship is automatic. You may want to call the Moroccan Embassey in the states or have your husband ask city hall peronnel in his city or whatever office issues passports to confirm what process you have to follow in either case.

I am completely going by memory, but I recall reading somewhere that a non-Moroccan can NEVER attain Moroccan citizenship through a spouse, must be through a parent so regardless that its a faster route, in my opinion its your only one Plus, any child of a Moroccan man is automatically a Moroccan citizen (as I know...but I'm not 100% sure) thats just my two cents lol
