Tickets for Malaysian Air Passengers with Stolen Passports Purchased by Iranian Middleman

According to an unconfirmed report by the Financial Times, the tickets used on the missing Malaysian flight by passengers carrying stolen passports were purchased by an Iranian middleman at a Thai travel agency.

A travel agent said an Iranian middleman named “Mr. Ali” asked her to book two men on a cheap flight to Europe; she initially booked them on separate flights, one on Qatar Airways and one on Etihad, but the tickets expired. She then was contacted by the middleman again last Thursday, who paid for the two tickets on the Malaysian Air flight in cash. She said the man did not specify an airline preference.

Normally terrorists have a reason for targeting a specific plane. It's not that likely that they would just ask for cheap tickets somewhere and blow up whatever plane they ended up on, is it? Well, not in my world anyway.
