Hello VJ members,

I am wondering if anybody living in the state of Maryland with a pending AOS from a K1 visa has already got their Driver's License.

Here is the situation : After I received my EAD card, I went to the local DMV office to apply for a Learner's Permit (it's the document that allows you to take driving classes when you pass the knowledge test), but I have been told to wait for my Green Card to be issued and then come back and reapply . However, the instructions clearly state that it is fine to apply for a Learner's Permit with an EAD card. When I asked them, they said that they could do nothing as long as I have a pending status with the Immigration Services. Yesterday, I received a letter from USCIS informing me of a potential waiver of the AOS interview, which means that I should expect the wait to be longer. So, now I really wish I could get my Learner's Permit simply with my EAD.

Have you guys - from MD - waited for the Green Card to get the Learner Permit/Driver's License?

Thank you.
