I am a US Permanent Resident, and considering to apply for citizenship. I have a child born and living in Europe who is not a US citizen. In my previous divorce papers (Divorced in Europe) it mentions about child support I was supposed to pay. I never paid this child support because I left Europe even before I got divorced and the mother of the child did not want any support as she and her family was self sufficient. It was kind of a mutual agreement. I submitted this divorce paper with the US immigration while applying for my PR card. I am not sure if I can apply for citizenship because this unpaid child support as per ordered by an European court!

I could ask a document from the mother of the child stating that she did not need any help from me because she did not need, and of course, time to time my family helped them economically.

Though above statement is accepted mutually but it still defies the court order. I wonder if the USCIS will accept such statement form the mother of the child?

Other option would be to pay whatever is unpaid directly to the court and clearing my unpaid obligation, and then submit the receipt of this court payment to the USCIS. However, I still wonder if the USCIS will penalize me for not being able to pay in due time as per European court's instructions.

Please advise if I should even begin my application if I am not eligible to apply?
