I am currently on an HI-B and engaged to be married. We have not set a date yet but I am in the process of applying for a new job (I work at a university and the new job is at the same university). I am wondering should I just apply for a new H1-B or would it make more sense to get married now, and apply for a green card. My employer takes the conservative route so we are looking at 3-4 months processing for H1-B. If I apply for a green card is there a way to get work authorization while it processes and start the new job on that or do I have to wait to go through the whole process to start a new job? I am really trying to determine if there is a quicker way for me to start the job than 3-4 months for H1-B or 4 months or longer of green card. Thanks!

If you apply for a green card via marriage to a USC you are looking at 60-90 days to obtain your Employment Authorization Document (EAD) once your Adjustment Of Status application is received by USCIS so it may be quicker than the H1B amended petition, however is the other job materially different? Would it require a new LCA? If yes to either then you do need an amended H1B.
