I apoligize if this is in the wrong section! If there is another post that covers this topic, just send me that way. I have spent the last hour looking through Visa Journey posts and have not found answer for this specific question.

I have a friend who will be a joint sponsor for her friends immigrating husband.

The joint sponsor makes enough on her own to cover income requirements, She can provide the copy of her tax return/W2 that shows her individual income. So here is the questions -

The joint sponsor files taxes married/jointly with her husband.

The husband of the joint sponsor does not want to be included in this process, but how would that play on the actual I-864 when it asked for household income of the joint sponsor?

Is it possible to only include the joint sponsors income, not her husbands, and what is the best way to fill the form so the situation is clear.

Anyhow help would be appreciated! Again, if there is already a post that addresses this, please let me know.

If the joint sponsor's spouse does not wish to have their income included, the joint sponsor would fill out the I-864 with her income information and include all tax documents.

Thank you for your response. It helps just having someone else who looks at the document and reaffirm!

So basically then don't use the total household income from the tax return, just the total income from the individuals employment (that is listed on the joint tax return).

The sponsors household would be 2 people (sponsor and spouse, they have no children or other dependents)

And then the husband does not sign anything.

Do you know if it is acceptable to black out any information on the tax return that is not directly related to the individual sponsor?

Again, thank you so much!!

Yes, do not use the total household income, only the Joint Sponsors income. They calculate their household size and the immigrant so their household size would be 3.

He does not have to sign anything.

Do not black anything out. They want to see the whole tax return or transcript.
