If you are the petitioner/sponsor I think they need a passport that's valid for another 5 years or something like that (vague recollection of something I read) so you may need to renew early.

Is your timeline updated?

You may need to renew your passport and the bio page is maybe the page that has your first and last name, date of birth etc. That page also shows when the passport was issued and expires. Edited by patientguy94

Trying to find out for you. It wasn't on the website for the Montreal consulate (I think it was on the site for India.) but there it said that you need a passport that's valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into the us. So if you told them you were leaving a month from now, then you do need a new passport. If you can't get ahold of a human being at the consulate, probably you'd be best to just bite the bullet, get a new passport, send them a copy of the bio page, and they'll complete your paperwork.

You'd have to do it anyway as soon as you got to the us, what's the harm of doing it now, and then you don't need to worry about it for another 5 or 10 years!

Alternatively, if you can email and/or talk to a human, you might find out that they've just misplaced an earlier copy you sent them!

Yes thats true, for travelling to US, you need a passport thats valid at least 6 months. So maybe, of you stay on the optimistic side, they want to issue the visa. Dont get your hopes high though cuz you never know why they require all this. But yes you may need to renew your passport and send it along with the copy of its bio page.
