Dear all VJ member, i need to know if in the future i am decide to do naturalization, is that my origin passport still needed to be use for the paperwork? because it wil expires on 2015 but i am not thinking to renew it because i knew i will do naturalization and i don't have to go back to my country anymore in the couple years

If it doesn't need for paperwork just using GC ( next year 2014 will be my 10 years GC ) so i won't renew til the time to do naturalization

Thank you

The only thing you need your passport for is if you decide to travel internationally. If you have no plans to do so after your passport expires in 2015, not a problem. Also, if you qualify for the 3 year rule you may be filing for Naturalization before the passport expires. Either way, once you receive your citizenship you can apply for a US passport. Just realize that once the passport expires, you are stuck in the US until you receive USC and then a US passport, or file for some sort of travel document from your home Embassy in the US or get a new passport from your home country.

You don't need a current passport for the N400, but DO KEEP your old, expired passport! The citizenship application asks for your travel history in the 5 years preceding your application, so it's helpful to have the passport to check dates on stamps etc. Also, even if you have not traveled, most applicants are asked to show their most recent passport at the interview so the immigration officer can verify travel dates or lack of travel. (Yeah, they usually do it even though exits and arrivals in the US are tracked in other ways).

So in all: you don't need a current / active passport, but keep the expired one for help with the paperwork and to show at the interview, if asked.
