I just thought of something. What ID do you need if you are flying within Canada if you don't have a driver's license? I always fly with a passport even within Canada so what do you need if you don't have your passport (since the consulate keeps it) or a driver's license? Ontario has photo health cards but they can't be used as ID in a lot of places, even to buy cigarettes or booze.

Pulled this off the Air Canada SIte...

Travel within Canada

For passengers over the age of 16 years, a valid government issued picture ID is required, i.e. driver's license, health card etc. For travelers less than 16 years of age, an original birth certificate or non-government issued ID i.e. student card is suggested but not mandatory at this time.

Note: As well, adults traveling with minor children are strongly advised to hold a letter of travel consent signed by the parent(s) or guardian(s) with legal custody. The letter must include the signor's address and phone details. Although this letter of travel consent does not have to be notarized for a child travelling within Canada, it is still recommended that this letter be notarized.

If a parent/guardian is divorced or deceased, custody document or death certificate is required.

Oh, awesome, thanks. Good to know. I'll be trying for a transfer in Vancouver but good to know if they end up changing their policy. They say they don't plan on it, but you never know...

So...

The interview in Montreal was a breeze! The consular said "this is more a formality for people that already got their K-3". So, if you went through the K-3 process, the CR1 interview is probably not going to be very difficult. Also, they DID give me the passport back the next day!!! Apparently, they are doing this for the people that ALREADY LIVE IN THE US. Of course, there are still no guarantees. I interviewed with a very nice consular, and that could have had a lot to do it. He said that if you still live in Canada (didn't do K-3 and do not reside in the US), they just ask you to go home and they mail the visa, but for people residing in the US, they give it to you next day. That makes sense, except I'm not happy about the lack of communication between branches of government about thing like these...Anyhow, I'm back home and very happy about it :)

Good luck to everyone!

P.S. It is only MY experience and MY opinions about the interview process, so PLEASE DO NOT take my words as general facts!

Congrats Lola!

That makes sense that if you go for a CR/IR interview they give it to you the next day because how the hell are you supposed to go back home to the U.S. without a passport (if you're flying)?

Not exactly. From what I understood from Lola's post was that she did a succesful K3 interview awhile back and THEN went back for the cr-1 interview (Instead of AOS'ing) So if one just goes the cr-1 route and still resides in Canada, the Visa wil be mailed to you in canada!! Of course 'm chilling with Mr. Molson and watching football, so I may be incorrect! I drink this fine brew in honor of Jersey Girls soon to be succesful interview!!! Cups up!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
