Hi, I am putting together our documents for the AOS interview scheduled for next week and I am wondering if I need to get another copy of my birth certificate (I am the foreign spouse) if I already submitted one with our I-485 packet? On the NOA USCIS sent us there is a checklist and it says clearly to bring it to the interview. Will I get in trouble if I don;t have it? thanks!

For our successful AOS interview, I made color laser copies of all of the originals and placed all original documents in plastic sheet protectors (Avery 74400). The IO could view the original, compare the copy, and keep the copy (if necessary).

Good luck at your interview.

Thanks, but my point is that I don't have another Birth Certificate of mine at home and I won't be able to get it before the interview. The one I had I had sent already with I-485 packet. I would assume they have it and if I show up to the interview without it wouldn't be a problem. But I am not sure...

You submitted your original copy of your birth certificate with your AOS application?

The I-485 instructions on page 3, Initial Evidence, Item 2, states, "Submit a copy of your foreign birth certificate....."

The original you sent will likely be in the IO's I-485 file at the interview. Hopefully you will get a reasonable IO, and you can try to explain the situation to the IO, ask them to make a copy for the file and return the original to you.

Good luck.
