I was wondering if anyone can share their experience with police certificates from countries that the DOS say they don't need it.

1. How do you support that, do i just print the page that says it?

2. How long are the police certificates valid for in the eyes of the embassy?

3. When would I need to have police certificates by? Do I need them by the time Packet 3.5 arrives, the medical, or the interview?

I have a very similar question. I found two places, both on the Dept of State's website, that offer conflicting information. One section says if you lived in a foreign country for more than six months, you must provide a Police Certificate from that country. On another section of the same site, it says if you lived in a foreign country for more than a year, you must provide a Police Certificate from that country.

My fiancee lives in Peru but lived in Mexico for 6 1/2 months.

Then also on the same website it says that Police Certificates are not required for Peru and Police Certificates are unavailable for Mexico. Any suggestions on what to do, if anything?

They are available for Mexico. Every state has their own and there's also like a national one:

but I'll try to be completely sure that she needs one before going into the whole thing of getting it.

Thank you. That is what we assumed, that there had to be something available....we'll research further into this. Thanks again!

You usually request that from the state where you're residing. This is an example for what to do to request a Police Certificate from the state of Chihuahua:

Try using "Certificado de no antencedentes penales de (State)" in a search engine.

Thank you again. We'll look into it and figure out what we need to present. Thanks for the info, it really is appreciated!
