Ok, so my fiance in May succeed and got his k1 visa. Since his job was to end in September, he decided not to leave until October. Well the date is October 7th and it is almost here!! I want to double check what everything he needs to enter the states! I know he has the packet, a valid visa, and his birth certificat- anything else? Also, what paperwork should I start working on to start everything he needs once he is in the states?

I know if is a lot of things I am asking about, so thanks in advanced!!

I came to the US on my K1 Visa last month, he just needs the big packet that the embassy gave him and his passport with the visa stamp inside... also, depending on which airport he's flying into, he also needs to be prepared to wait at immigration. I waited a loooong time just for them to stamp me through...and I missed my next flight cos of it :(

Congrats btw!

Thank you so much for the information. Do you mind if I ask which airport you came through? My fiance is coming from Japan to Chicago's O'hare airport.

Also, is there any paperwork I should be putting together now? I know I saw something about 10 days to file for SSN.

I came through Philadelphia, they were scary!! Been through Chicago airport before and they were a lot more laid back (but this might depend on the person) hopefully they're all that way though.

We haven't put together any yet!) I think you apply for SSN after you're married! I should probably look into all this (have a small baby so getting things done doesn't happen much!) I'm pretty sure it comes after marriage though.

In your case with a December wedding date, I really suggest to get the SSN shortly after the government opens again.

We were married a month after entry so we waited and got the SSN in the married name with a printout of the I-94 and passport with visa and a original copy of marriage certificate.

The catch to the SSN is you need to wait long enough for his I-94 to be 'in the system" but not within a few (2 I think) of expiry. Your Dec wedding date with subsequent marriage certificate "production" may be pushing the date at which the SS Admin may refuse and make you come back after the EAD card is received. SSN before marriage is straightforward and often recommended by VJ Member Darnell as it application and the I-94 name will be an exact match. However it looks like your spouse is male so this won't affect you.

Other than the SSN, you need to bang out the I-485, I-756, I-864, and a new G325a IIRC.

We got all of the above together in 2 days.

If you haven't already go online and order tax transcripts (3 years) from the IRS.

Also make sure that whatever forms you fill out that they have the required bar codes. Not all browsers generate thes properly. In my case Chrome did not IE did.

Good Luck!
