My wife, (I'm still getting used to saying that,) came in through Detroit on K1 last July. She had only 90 minutes to clear and catch her connecting flight to Cleveland, so I drove up and met her there. Here's what happens: She'll get off the plane and get in line with all the other passengers. Have her hold all of her documentation in her hand so anyone directing the line will see them. She will probably be directed to another line and the CBP will take all of her paperwork and ask a few questions, (who is the petitioner? where will you live? etc.) He/she will then remind you that you have 90 days to get married. Stamp and gone. Pick up her luggage and go to customs. It goes pretty quick. My wife was out in plenty of time to catch her connecting flight. I made her ride in the car anyway. 2 hours will be plenty of time in my opinion.

Congrats!!!

Hey guys

My fiancée will arrive in Detroit as her POE,,,,final destination NY

What will they do first...usher her in thru immigration?

or get her Checked-in luggage?

What is the process when she meets with immigration/

thanks all

Has she ever been to another country? I personally would meet her in Detroit it is a cheap and easy flight from NY. If she's traveled a lot then probably not needed, but flying isn't as normal in Philippines as it is here. Detroit isn't a great airport to navigate either. Just like the visa process there are many things that can happen at the airport. I was actually taken aside once for screening in immigration, I'm as white and my grandparents, grandparents were born here so I was a bit shocked. I just went to the front desk and basically said I think you guys have a mistake I don't believe I should be here. They pulled me up quick on a computer and were like you are right you can go. Anything can happen at the airport, it's like a new story every time.

You would do better in the future when you have a new question to post a new topic rather then sliding it into an old thread (plus this one is in the Philippines specific forum).

but to answer your question:

international travel to the USA always collects luggage first then go through immigrations. If your lucky it will be the same as a passport check with a couple of questions.

That is absolutely not true not matter what airport in the US you fly into. ALWAYS the first thing is immigration -> collect baggage -> customs -> exit. If you are connecting you always go through the same process but add recheck baggage instead of exit. You always have to collect your baggage at the first entry point in the US. There are NO exceptions to this rule.

No matter what country you fly to, you will go through immigration first, collect baggage, then customs. I have never heard of going through immigration with baggage. Can you imagine the immigration line if everyone had their giant suitcase?

Cheers!

I totally agree with you, the process is Immigration first, then collect your luggage and head to customs. It's would be nuts crazy if they did it differently. wink.png
