:ot2: A guy who doesn't know $hit about the basics of terrorism, has no business in a job where that is his primary responsibility. Clearly. Similarly, is a guy who chokes and mangles his words in front of TV cameras and demonstrates zero charisma and even less knowledge and intelligence the best choice for President? That'd be a big, fat smelly "no" for me.

welcome to politics, where the party faithful are rewarded with a position not based on their aptitude but their butt snorkeling ability.

as for those demonstrating 0 charisma, they got elected somehow.

Yes they did - through a mixture of false advertising and outright lies. Politics demands the best people and unfortunately, attracts the worst...

did you really expect anything different when a bunch of lawyers get together? (and yes, a significant portion of our lawmakers are lawyers)

It isn't surprising, no. But I don't think it justifies lowering expectations.

That's been true right from the beginning. I believe even most of the Founders were lawyers.

back then they had a different type of conviction than the ones nowadays

Did they? Or do the history books, in the interests of keeping the narrative attractive and simple, simply gloss over the corruptions of those times?

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Except everyone ends up in a permanent state of disappointment, which quickly turns to apathy. Sounds familiar doesn't it?

let's leave the continent out of this discussion

More than can be said for Mr (s)hit and run on the other page. He's left a longer yellow streak than a stampede of diarrhetic camels.

The answer was....

d: Islam (aka all of the above)

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt
March 16, 2006
