Hi everybody,

My name is Tim. I am an American citizen engaged to a Brazilian lady. We plan to marry soon and live in the US. We have received our approval letter from USCIS and are awaiting contact from the Brazilian Consulate in Sao Paulo for her to go for her Fiancee Visa interview.

The question I have for you all is regarding the co-sponsor situation.

My situation is this: I have a degree in English and teach/tutor at a college. My elderly mother (who has been in ill health for some time) and my developmentally handicapped brother presently live with me. To be more available to their needs, I have just been working part-time. But upon my marriage to my fiancee, my mother and brother will move in with my sister, thus freeing me up to pursue full-time work.

In addition, I have goodly amounts of money in savings, checking, and credit union accounts (about $50,000 total), and my house is totally paid for. So I am "OK" financially.
Plus, my best friend of 25 years is willing to be a co-sponsor to further show financial responsibility.
But my concern is this: if one ONLY looks at my tax forms for annual income, it does not meet the financial requirements, obviously, due to my present part-time status.
Do you think there could be a problem with the Brazilian Consulate regarding this? Of course, I sure don’t want us to be denied based on something that really isn’t a problem (as far as I am concerned).
I have an immigration lawyer, but I would be interested to hear anyone else's experience/advice.
Thanks!
