Hi experts -

My brother is filling for his N400 by the end of this month and he has a question about documents and checklist. brief info on his status. Got married to a usc - marriage didn't workout they are legally divorced . He has 10 years unconditional GC. He has never traveled anywhere, paid all his taxes, no tickets, ofcourse no records and he is eligible to apply based on 5 years GC residency by the end of this month.

He has these docs:

1. Form N-400 Application for Naturalization

2. (2) Passport Style Photographs

3. Filing fee in a form of personal check - $......

4. Photocopy of I-551 - Permanent Resident Card back and front

5. G-1145 E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance

6. last 3 years tax transcripts

Please let us know if he is missing any documents. Someone told him he has to sent his legal divorcé document, he is not applying based on his marriage, correct, why should he need that?

Please advise.

He needs to send in his divorce documents. It's a requirement of the checklist in the instructions. He does not need to send the transcripts with the applicantion though. He should take his last 5 years taxes with him ot the interview though. All the best to him.

Thanks - You said 5 years tax returns ? I thought it says last 3 years on the instructions of N400. What if he sends a copy of those with his application?

So a copy of his divorce cert is MUST?
