Hello everyone, I need some advice regarding other names used. My mother got married to my stepfather when I was 2 years old. After they got married, they tried to re-register me in the local registrar’s office with my stepfathers family name( i.e Cruz ) but I am not legally adopted by him. They were thinking back then that re-registering is already good enough. So I was XXXXXX Cruz since I was 2 years old until I was 20 years old. When I was about to graduate in college on March 2005 , the university asked for the authenticated birth certificate and that’s when we found out that I have my mother’s maiden name as my Family name “ i.e Santos”. The local registrar’s office advise us to use the family name based on the BC from that time onwards. With all the notarized affidavit, I graduated with new name “ XXXXXX Santos and not XXXXXX Cruz “. All my ID’s now and my passport are already as per my BC “ XXXXXX Santos “. I was approved a Visit Visa last February and on DS-160 form , I mentioned ‘ NO’ on the question other names used. I mentioned NO on DS-160 cause I thought it’s applicable for some nationality who has different English names : Japanese/Chinese maybe :D.

My question is:

  • Should I mentioned XXXXX Cruz in other names used?
  • If I do , are they gonna ask me why I put NO on DS-160 form while applying for Tourist Visa?
  • Will this be a problem , like they would say I lied on my DS-160 form?
  • Do they usually ask for supporting documents in this case

Thanks in advance on your response

Did you have ID during that time in which you used the name Cruz instead of Santos. Does your high school graduation certificate say Cruz or Santos?

My ID's in high school and university were all Cruz . My diploma in high school is Cruz too . But my University Diploma, transcript of Records and Alumni ID are all in Santos.

Does this mean i really need to mention the Cruz in the other names used?

I am worried if they will say I lied on my DS-160 for saying NO and cause denial on I-130 later on. I ddnt lie, I was just really thinking it doesn’t apply to me cause I don’t have any other name like a local name.
