Hi VJ's,

I just booked our flight to the Philippines through Delta Airlines. Delta isn't really my #1 choice but from our location and travelling with a baby, Delta was a practical choice. I should say, the pricing was good, but they are NOT too honest when it comes to reserving a ticket for Infant/Child (50% of adult fare).

When i called their customer service last week prior to booking our flight, I called them to inquire about their Infant fare ( purchasing a seat under the 50% discount fare), i was told to book our reservation first ( me and my husband ) then call them with the confirmation number. Which I did only to find out that my reservation doesn't give any infant/child discount. The customer service told me I can avail of a 25% discount if I upgrade. What a BS is that. The total fee for an upgrade with our baby's 25% discount cost more than just going ahead and purchase a ticket for her with the same amount under an adult fare.

I wish Delta would be clear or HONEST on this.

So, for any other VJ's who will be travelling with an infant. I recommend calling them than booking your fight online.

Therein lies the rub. The child discount is only applicable to some fares and not to others. If you are flying one-way, make sure that 50% of a full fare is not a better deal.

On a personal note, you would be better off booking a ticket for your child then running the risk of a full flight and having to carry him/her on your lap the entire trip.

I just went ahead booked our baby under the same price as ours. It just made me irritated coz I could have booked her at one time had they not informed of those 50% discount BS thing. Also, another BS from them which they think it made me feel well was that they waive the 25% additional fee since I have to change seat or something.

I think you got ripped off. I am bringing back my son in Oct, so i called Delta to get the tickets for my son and Fiance. The first lady wasnt sure what to do since my child is infant under two. I told them that he will be a lap child, so i only had to pay the taxes on my ticket for his fare. Came out to $118. Problem lies in that fact that they must mail out the paper ticket to your address where the credit card lies. She took my info and told me to wait for the ticket in the mail. After a week went by, i actually called back to ask when the will send the ticket, because i will actually be in Manila 10days before his flight. The second agent then said, OH, i see they noted your case that you will have to get the ticket from the Manila Delta Center when i check in. So i dont actually have his ticket yet, but verified that my case if noted clearly with the price of 118 and infant details. In short, i bought my ticket as lap child which is only the cost of the taxes on my round trip ticket.

i paid 10% of the adult fare and taxes for my son's RT ticket with delta - he was a lap passenger.

the adult ticket was purchased online. the kid's ticket was purchased in one of their business centers.

they just asked for the confirmation number of the accompanying adult

i think the person you spoke to is not knowledgeable enough about the infant lap/seat rate.

in terms of when the baby can travel - you may travel with a 7 days old baby. usually the airline will require a letter from a physician that it is safe for the baby to travel at that age. personally I wont bring a newborn in an airplane. id say about 4-5 months would be ideal. remember airplanes are enclosed space and youd be in it for quite some time thus the germs and all are airtight with you and the baby. i said 4-5 months because theyd just be sleeping, eating, pooping, sleeping, eating...a little play time, eating sleeping in the plane.

my son was about 7 months when i first traveled with him. it was not something i want to do a repeat of. he wasnt a crier but a whiner. :) he was trying to crawl and try to walk (grabbing on whatever) in the plane. i didnt get any sleep at all. =/

good luck!
