Canadian LPRs who've had babies post-immigration to US

Hi all! It's been awhile since I've been on VJ. :)

A little over a week ago, I gave birth to our first child. I've been reading over the process for obtaining her Canadian citizenship paperwork and was hoping someone here might have some BTDT for us.

Based on what I've read, it sounds like you can no longer file a registration of birth abroad and they want you to directly file an application for Canadian citizenship. The problem I'm running into is the fact that we're being asked to include two pieces of identification, one of which must have a photo included. She's a 9 day old baby. She doesn't have ID outside of her birth certificate, and certainly doesn't have any photo ID. We're also being asked to include two passport-style additional photos of her, which isn't impossible but seems horribly impractical for a baby so young (who's going to look different in six months anyway).

Do I really have to include all of that for a tiny baby? And if so, what kinds of things can you use for ID for an infant?

I really wish they had just left the registration of birth abroad process intact. dry.png

I still haven't sent mine in for Alexis, she is now 2. But yes they expect all that for a baby, the only good thing about a baby is they are not as strick with the no expressions on the face. We actually just got our passport pictures done when we where in Canada in July. We had a lot of problems finding a place that could do the size right here, since Sears portrait studios closed. We are going to go get her a state id, (well that is if they will let us since she is so young) rather then spend all that money on a passport. Others on here said they used the US passport for the picture ID.

I'm sure someone will pop on and give you better news.

For the two pieces of identification, you can use the baby's social security card and U.S. pasport (the latter is the one with photo). That was the recommendation from a former FAQ on a consulate's website.

Also, by "Canadian LPRs" you mean Canadian-citizen U.S. LPRs, right?
