Hi! We just recently moved to a new apartment. Its only under my name coz my wife's credit is messed up. The aparment's policy is to run credit of every person in the apartment. They just cant put name as occupant or something. But my wife is listed on the renter's insurance..my question is, would i still send the lease contract? Thanks!

That's basically exactly what we had happened to us (her credit wasn't bad...it was just that she had not credit at all and according to the leasing office, credit bureaus don't think much of newly issued SSANs with no credit history and no job)...though she wasn't on the renters insurance either. They did have her initial the 'Apartment Complex Rules' and I sent that in. I just explained it all in the cover letter.

Since then, I had her added to the lease as an occupant...then we moved and by then she had a job, so we made the credit cut and she was added to the lease, though this was the last month before we filed our I-751...so not much history there.

Either way, just send in what you have (renters insurance) and include an explanation about why she is not on the lease. I seen posts here that indicate that an explanation up-front can save you an RFE later.

BTW, in the interest of full disclosure...I have not yet been approved. So the statements I made above are not based on a successful ROC (yet...I hope).
