Entry after K-3 and applying for Green Card

Lots of people who can't work still get SS cards of Type 2 above. After the EAD is approved, it should be possible to change the status of the same SS # from Type 2 to Type 3. I'm not 100% sure there isn't some catch specifically preventing K3's from taking advantage of this. You should check with the SSA.

I don't think K3s apply in that situation. K3s are not eligible for federally funded benefits of any kind, I'm assuming this loophole pertains to refugees or similar immigrants.

If you need to file taxes before you have your EAD and are eligible for SSN, you can apply for an ITIN, which is also valid ID for obtaining a driver's license.
