I have not sent off our I-130 yet but I thought it best to go ahead with the police clearances as I understand they can take some time. I'm Irish but live in the UK, and the form for the Irish police certificate asks for an embassy ref number when it's to apply for a visa - is this necessary? Should I wait until I get our NOA1 before I send this back?

Not sure about how long the Irish one will take, but the ACPO one will only take 10 working days from receipt (or 2 if you want to pay premium). http://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx

Since you're DCF though, it may all move quite quickly, so I think it's a good idea that you start ordering these things now.

I've never heard of an embassy reference number, and google didn't turn one up for me for London. I wonder if you actually need it at all.

Awesome. It doesn't cost anything for the Irish report so I may as well just send it back with NA in that section and see what comes back.

Thanks again, you're very helpful!

Found some other topics on irish police certs. No one mentions a ref number (but do request why you want to cert);

Perhaps "London Embassy" will be sufficient.

Or LND? That's the start of the code for applicants at London. You'll get a case code eventually that starts LND2013XXXXXX.

The local Garda station said to get the form posted to my mother and for her to take it in, so I'll get her to discuss it with them and figure out the best thing to enter. I'll post back here when she has in case anyone else runs into the same thing.
