Hi Everyone,

When me and my husband got married, I did not wish to change my name. The clerk asked me will I eventually change my name and I said yes, so she said she could put it down on the license that way when I want to change it would be easier rather than me having to pay $500 later to change it. So I had her put my husband's last name. I just got the marriage certificate and at the bottom in the new name section, it has my first name and my husband's last name as my last name. But I have not changed it any where else and don't plan to right now. My question is will this be an issue when filing form I-130? My name on every document is my first name and maiden name. Do I need to put my new name as it states on my marriage certificate anywhere on the form I-130 or can I just put my name as it is now? Thanks in advance!!

Your marriage certificate serves a purpose. It allows you to use to change your name with Banks, Schools, work, etc as well as immigration documents and social security. My marriage certificate had a maiden name. I use the certificate to change my name at my work, bank, social security and use my new name on the immigration forms

Your visa and subsequent green card will be in the name on your passport.

The fact that you have differing names elsewhere doesn't matter as you list all of your names on either the I-130 or g-325a.

I can't remember atm. But one of them has it.
