Hi Guys,

We originally applied for a K1 visa back in December, but due to a change in circumstances - she got accepted to study in the UK for a year - we decided to get married, and whilst she is here anyway we can have a fully fledged CR1 going instead.

We are obviously familiar with most of the initial process with the I-130, but I am not sure about how this is going to work with the Affidavit of support. She will be a student here (no income) and I obviously have a decent income in the UK, but cant use that. So between us we effectively have nothing! But surely this cant be a particularly unusual circumstance - can we simply use one of her American family members or family friends as a co-sponsor, who will effectively need to fulfill the whole requirement of the form because my assets aren't accepted, and she doesn't have any? Will they be happy with this, i hope so - since i see no other way.

Many thanks for your patient advice, as always..

Kind regards,

Owen

Yep, you can use a US based US citizen or greencard holder as a co-sponsor- they need not be relatives or even live in the same state as you will be. The other option is to use assets, if you have significant savings.
