Well today I went and applied for the SSN - will get it in 2 weeks I am told. The marriage certificate could take another 5 weeks to get... it almost seems like I ain't legally shackled  Can't get the State ID am told till I have a visa that is for more than 1 year... :help:

I plan to get a new passport as the difference between a new passport and getting details on the one I currently have modified is a mere 30 dollars... :innocent:

However I don't know what to do... should I change the passport before we apply for AOS??? Like I said I feel like I am floundering.

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

Conditional Green Card dated 24th October 2007

There is no real need to change your passport before you apply for AOS. I haven't changed mine yet and if you decide to do any travelling then book your tickets in the name on your passport as well as take other forms of ID including your marriage certificate, just in case.

In some cases you have to send your old passport in, to get a new one made up. So the choice is yours.

Hi,

You can get certified copy of your marriage certificate. Until the original copy comes in five weeks. As for state ID you don't have to wait a year. All you need to take with is your passort with your K1 visa stamped in it. SS number when it comes and the certified copy of your marriage. The certified copy costs $20.00 for as many copies you need. As for the state ID i got mine from Gessner.Hope this helps you.

Kath.

It's always a good idea to get the passport straightened out. Why would you want to fiddle about with carrying your old passport and marriage certificate and having to explain it all everytime you pass through a security check at the airport. Also saves explaining when picking up e-tickets.

But it doesn't need fixed prior to AOS. In fact I probably wouldn't bother with it until after Adjustment of Status. You have to turn in your old passport to get a new one. I wouldn't let my current passport, with my I-94 and entry stamps, out of my grubby hands until I had my greencard.
