South Australia/Adelaide Police Check

Hi Everyone,

Sorry if this topic has been brought up before but I've searched high and low and can't seem to find a sufficient answer...

My husband lives in Adelaide and he's trying to be proactive about the police certificate but when he went to his local police station they said they don't do fingerprints without a form. He also emailed the US consulate in Sydney to inquire if fingerprints were needed and they replied with "If you do not request a police certificate on the basis of a fingerprint search, you must ensure that all known names and/or aliases you've used are included in your request for a police certificate. All those names and aliases must appear on the issued certificate." But everything I've read says you need fingerprints.

So my questions:

1. Does he need to have fingerprints done? If so, has anyone done it in Adelaide recently that can help?

2. Has anyone had a police check without fingerprints and have the NVC accept it?

3. What form do you think the Adelaide police would need?

Thank you!

Valerie

Yes, they do need fingerprints. You will be requested to get a police check with fingerprints later if you don't do it now. I'm not sure about Adelaide, but my fiancé had to go to 2 police stations in order to find someone who knew what they were doing in Sydney. The first one said to give them ALL the documents in packet 3. Lol We left, and went to another station who knew the protocol. The form is online. I can't remember it exactly but I know it's posted in the pinned thread at the top of this forum.

Everyone has to have fingerprint based background checks done. Here are the links for you for SA so you don't have to dig for them:

http://canberra.usembassy.gov/obtain_police_cert.html#sa and if you follow the link for SA it will take you to this: http://www.sapolice.sa.gov.au/sapol/services/information_requests/police_checks.jsp That might help you. The form is there and the fees are on a link.

My fiancé did his by printing out the form and taking it to the police station, and they mailed it in (he did the Federal police check because the lady from the station called him and told him that he had done the wrong one the first time at the station- we knew they take the Federal one so he printed that one out and had that one done and in to just get it over.) It took less than 2 weeks to get them back. They were pretty speedy. We may have paid more going the Federal police check route, but it's done. (The links I gave you are NOT the federal police route, but you can get them from the first link if you look)
