Hi All,

In order to approve the K2 Visa Petition, my Husband need to do a DNA. The Embassy of United States in Dominican Republic. The interview went well but now he must prove the relationship. Have any of you had this done in Dominican Republic, where is the place you must go and how much does it cost. Do you have the website you can direct me to? He's in Dominican Republic right now, and they just gave him a paper they didn't let him know exactly where he needs to go. I just want to know if there is a specific place.

Thank you all in advance!

I can't help you with your question but I found some info from the US Consulate Dominican Republic

http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov/atc-090330.html

Why did the consular officer request a DNA test? March 30, 2009

For certain categories of residency visas, the consular officer may request a DNA test to prove the required biological relationship exists. DNA is the most reliable way to determine that the necessary biological relationship exists in order for an applicant to qualify for an immigrant visa. Unfortunately, these tests are sometimes necessary because of the high levels of relationship fraud that exist in the Dominican Republic and other countries. A biological relationship is a relationship established by blood line. U.S. law does not recognize informal/"crianza" relationships because they are not blood relationships.

If the consul requests a DNA test, he or she will provide you with a list of specific instructions and approved laboratories. The applicant must make an appointment with the panel physician ("Consultorios de Visas") to give his/her sample. If the other person to give sample is in the U.S. he/she can give the sample to an accredited laboratory there. The process can take about two months or more to receive the results. The laboratory will send the results directly to the IV Unit and we will then contact the applicant with another appointment with instructions on the next steps.

Although I did look into it and found that there are 2 locations in the DR the Embassy will except testing from. One was like $350 and I couldn't find the price for the other one. We did not have to take a DNA test. I am going to assume that since OP stated K2 the DNA testing is to establish between beneficiary and the child they are bringing with them to the US. Is this correct?

Hi Reese,

Yes I found both places that do this DNA testing. Labratorio Clinico Lic Patria Rivas 809.685.0950 y Referencias Laboratorio 809.221.5545. At Alvarez, they don't always ask for DNA Test, the reason why they asked my husband was because he declared late on the birth certificate and they just want to make sure. Once he does that they will give the visa. I was told it takes 4 weeks after the submission of DNA.

Those were the 2 places I was referring too. Hopefully everything doesn't delay the process to long for you.
