Recieved email from NVC and my wife name on the letter shows as FNU then her first and last name. In her passport she left her surname blank and in given name she put both her first and last name. So NVC has put FNU in front which stands for first name unknown. My question should she apply for new passport and have her name fixed and whenever her interview comes take her new passport or will there be problem with new passport. Will consulate question about new passport. Also if anyone has same problem and what they did

one more question i emailed Ds-3032 on 5/28 and havn't received any email back if it accepted. How long does it usually takes. thanks

We have the same Issue and we called the NVC and spoke with them . NVC officer said if SURNAME was Blanked they would use FNU ( First Name Unknown ) and it will be same on VISA either and we decided not to change passport and will go whatever they entered in the system but will fix it in America after arrival . I think it would not be a wise idea to change passport bcz they have already entered that Passport number into the system when they asked for copy of biodata page. Let me know if you have some better information .

Could you please share your experience and advice regarding FNU as we are going through the same and summary is as under-

The same problem is being faced by my son. He is likely to get his interview in Oct 2017. The new passport updated as Singh his last name is emailed to NVC on 22 Jul 2017 for correction of name and removal of FNU and still awaiting reply from NVC.

As you have already gone through this dilema of FNU so I want to know from your experience that if it is not updated by NVC before his interview then could it be corrected during Consular Interview?

By the way it will be great if you share your case outcome regarding the same.

 Thanks in anticipation.
