So we are still in the holding pattern with the NBC waiting to hear about our I-130 decision. Monday is the two month mark for waiting, and from the look of Igor's list, we could hear any day now (or next December, I guess you never really know until it happens). I'm trying to get everything ready to go so we can get through the NVC process as smoothly and quickly as possible.

Some background:

I am a graduate student and a part time employee of the federal government. I don't know what the cut off is, but I'm sure my wages don't cross whatever the threshold is to look like I'm able to support my husband.

So I'm sure I'll need a co-sponsor. Natural choice would be my father (my mother is deceased). However, he is retired and is living off his savings/pension/social security, which is also not a huge amount.

So what do I do? Will my father and I be adequate proof that my husband won't become a burden to the state? That's what makes this so frustrating, my husband will definitely be the main wage earner until I graduate. He's had several good offers here in the past, he just can't accept them until this is over!

Ive been waiting since Jan. 2013 for my I130 and its seems that the approvals had been all over the place! Meaning that, others has filed after me and are getting approved. I wish us all the best of luck but I wish there could be some consistency in this thing because some people are still waiting to be approved since last year! As far a your co sponsor Im not sure so I want elaborate on that question.

for a two person household

total assets for someone who is not working is just under 60 thousand

total annual earnings necessary just under 20 thousand

your father's money can only be combined with yours if you live at the same address, otherwise one of you will have to qualify individually

Oh really? I am a resident of Hawaii (which I know has a higher required income) and my Dad is in Missouri. When filing the forms would I be filing it saying I have a household of 2 (anticipating my husband) or is it just one? My Dad can still be a joint sponsor right? He just has to file a separate I-864 right? Thanks for your help!

Yeah, there really isn't any consistency! I know two months would be a pretty fast acceptance if it happens, but I'd rather be as prepared as possible. Good luck to you too!
