Hello VJ members ! I just want to ask something about N-400. I am gathering all my paperworks / documents for my naturalization, I have some few questions here :

1. I am going to change my first and middle name in N-400, if i am going to submit my photos, how do I write my name at the back of it ?

my old name (like in my GC) or the new name i am going to use?

Example: my name in GC is : First name - Martha

Middle name - Stewart

Last name - James

The new name I am going to use : First name - Isabella

Middle name - Marie

Last name - James

Which one i am going to sign at the back of my photos? Martha ( name on my GC) or Isabella ? (the name i am going to change in N-400)

2. Part 11 on N-400 - My signatures

How do I sign my signatures ? my old name in GC or the new name I am going to use?

3. For the incoming Biometrics for my naturalization ( soon after I submitted my documents)

How do I sign it? like my name in GC or the new name ?

Thank you so much. I hope somebody could help me before I submit my N-400 this coming June.

Answers to:

Question 1: Write your "Old" name at the back of the photos.

Question 2: Do not sign until the day of your interview. I remembered I asked the immigration officer who interviewed me whether I should sign my "old name" or "new name". The answer is "Sign your "OLD name"". You should ask the IO who interviewed you that day before you sign on it.

On the Name Change petition (which will be given to you on the interview date), I am also required to sign my "OLD" name. (For your information)

The Date on the approved Change Name petition is the SAME Date as your JUDICIAL oath ceremony date. (Note: This is based on my experience in Los Angeles DO). At the time of your interview, the Name Change petition has not been approved by the judicial judge. That's why you should not sign using your "New" name.

During your Oath Ceremony, the approved Name Change petition will be stapled together with the Naturalization Certificate.

Question 3:

Biometrics?- Is it fingerprinting? I don't recall signing any documents during fingerprinting. If you were asked to sign, just use your OLD name since your Name Change petition has not been approved.

Hope this helps.
