Hi, I am just starting my K1 visa and I am new at this. I have a few questions and I was wondering if I can get some advice from you more experienced K1 people :-)

Would I need to submit tax returns for the previous year to prove my last year's income? I actually only have 1 previous tax return because I recently graduated from school with an engineering degree in 2011. By the way, is it ok that I don't have multiple years of tax returns?

Also, does making unemployment insurance previously have any negative bearing on a K1 decision? So after graduating from college, I got a job and was working for about a year and then I got layed off :-0. So it took me about 8 months to find another job in this bad economy and I was making unemployment insurance while I was looking for work. Even without factoring in the unemployment insurance, my tax return actually shows that my earnings were still higher than the 125% poverty line. Last month I finally found another job. So I am thinking by the time the K1 process comes to the last stages (around 6 months from now hopefully), I will have had my new job for about 8 months.

Do you think it is necessary to get a lawyer to assist with the visa process? I have done some research and I have seen a lot that you really don't need a lawyer and they can even make things move slower...in addition to the fees they charge.

Thanks again!

Adam
