So right now, I'm abroad with my wife and we are in the beginning stages of planning to head back to the states (no specific date).

As I understand, there are a few things that I need to show: 1) relationship is real 2) I have a reason to head back to the U.S 3) I can support her.

the validity of the relationship is easy.

I do have a mortgage and a house which is leased, back in the U.S. My entire family lives in the U.S. I dont have a job in the U.S though.

My question is: If I dont have a U.S job offer by the time it comes to providing documentation, am I pretty much out of luck? I've had trouble getting a job here, so I'm not sure if that is a strong enough reason to tell them why I am going back to the States. Also, since I wont have a job....yet, I won't be able to show that I have the constant income to support my spouse. Will that be a problem? I am a U.S citizen, with a U.S Degree, and did make above average salary, so from a professional qualifications, I'm sure once I get back to the states, I can find a job.

A job offer would not be enough either; you need current and ongoing income, not just the potential of a job.

As you live abroad with your wife, you have three options:

1. Head back before her and get a ob, she shows paystubs at interview

2. Sponsor her on assets- you need x3 the income requirement for your household, and most US embassies want the assets to be US based such as savings, a second car or property etc.

3. Get a co-sponsor.
