You guys and Xoom... Only paying $4.99? Or is there more??? I know it's convenient, and at times, the only way you can send. But even if you have that $4.99 coupon, you still lose money on the exchange rate. If the rate is 43, and you send $1,000, Xoom exchanges it at 42, you lose 1,000 php, or about $23 USD. Without the coupon, it costs you $28 to send a grand.

We have used Trans-Fast for many years. Never once did we have a problem. Can send money for $4.99 to the Philippines and your recipient can have deposited to her account, picked up at a convenient location or have it delivered to her door. You choose. https://www.transfast.com/index.aspx

I now use Wells Fargo as my bank and send a transfer for $5.00 to my fiancée's bank account. It's in her account with in no time at all.

Don't choose option to receive funds in Pesos. You can send funds in Xoom to receive in US dollar at $7.99.

Western Union is still free for 3 day transfer from bank (or 1-3 day using WUpay). I also did 2 transfers today. This seems to be the longest stretch they've had this free offer so far.

https://wumt.westernunion.com/WUCOMWEB/shoppingAreaAction.do?method=load&nextSecurePage=Y says they are using 43.623, but current market is 44.5. So you lose 877 php, or about $19.71 on the transaction (plus fees).

So its not free....

20$ is a pretty healthy bump.

Yeah, it's far from free. Even if the fee is waived, they are making bank off of the sender. That's why I always say get an ATM card with refundable fees. That way you can truly send for free.

You can choose to receive the funds in US dollars instead of Pesos and you won't pay any of the exchange fees except the fee

That's great, if she or her family want to look at USD all day. Or else they gotta exchange it themselves. And hope they find a gooder rate than WU/Xoom/Remitly

In the Philippines the exchange rates are standard and fair. My wife family gets better rates than WU or Xoom with little effort

I've had my fiancée waiting outside cebuana while I sent her money through Xoom. As soon as we received the text notification (about 2mins) she walked in and picked up the money. So far, so good! $4.99 fee

Although I do prefer to send her US dollars and have her exchange on the black market, ie the independent money exchangers. Always a better rate than the banks
