My girlfriend and I are hitting the home stretch in terms of sending off our I-129F documents and have a few questions...

We are both currently in Canada and are shipping them off from Canada. Should I just use a courier service like UPS? Or should I use Canada Post?

Do we have enough evidence that we met in person in the last two years? I have credit card statements showing purchases from her hometown in the USA, she has a passport with stamps and a "Visitor's Record" that the border issued that is still valid (as we are still together here in Canada. It states that she is allowed to stay until May.) I have letters from Commerce Bank in her hometown (hays, Kansas) as I was attending University there on an exchange program last semester (from August until December 2012). I also have a card from Fort Hays State University informing me that I made it on the Honor Roll / Dean's list, and I have a tax document mailed in my name to where we lived in the United States. I'm also pretty sure that I even have mail from Fort Hays State University addressed directly to my Canadian residence. I have my Canadian passport with stamps showing entry into the United States as well, one of which on my Student Visa. I have a Social Security number, and can even send a copy of my social security card if need be. We have some photos of ourselves together as well. Moreover, our passport-style photos are stamped and dated from the Walmart in my home city in Canada, as, like I said, we are currently together right now. I could include Facebook conversations and all of that sort of thing but I mean... is that even necessary at this point? I don't know what the system is like, but to me it seems basically irrefutable that we've seen each other in the past two years. In fact, we've literally spent the last ENTIRE YEAR in each other's physical company.

Also, should our letters outlining our intent to marry be typed using the template on this site, or should we hand-write them?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, and if there is anything worth mentioning that I haven't touched on, let me know. We want to start our lives together, and don't want any delays : (

photocopies of airline tickets are also good if you still have them. Also affidavits from friends and family are also really good. I posted about affidavids from froends/ family in another thread with info and a template link. I will post the link on here for you.

I really dont think it matters if the letters of intent are typed or handwritten! We just printed them off from here and signed and dated them!

Also.. the intent to marry letter can be typed or written. Either is fine, as long as you both write on each. You can use the template on Visa Journey if you want and just customize it to suit your needs. Remember you must hand sign and date the intent to marry letter, and your fuancee must sign and date theirs too. (in black ink only).

Another good idea is too #### a contents page that shows everything included in your petition package. This should be listed in the order it is filed in. This will ensure they can see everything you have included, and will look for anything on the list in your packet, instead of accidentally skipping a certain form/ document/ page and asking you to submit it again. This is what we did and it was all accepted ok.

not sure why it says #### on that message i just sent. it should say add

i think i may have put ss on the end of add by accident instead of the dd`s. lol!! :S

If you get the flat Expres Post Envelopes made for documents to send the package they are completely tracable.

I sent my hubby some originals that he needed to file that way.

You can download a Canada Post app and the USPS app and trace from your smartphones.

The numbers on your receipt for Expres Post will be able to be input in the USPS app for tracing within the US.

Or you can trace using your computer of course.

I didn’t bother replying to the rest as others seemed to have it in hand. Good luck in your journey.

Also, join us in the Canada regional forum for stuff that’s more Canada specific. :)

Does the affidavit need to be notarized or anything like that, or should I simply follow your template there?

Also, I don't have any plane ticket stubs because we've never flown to see one another. I always just drive. I suppose we could explain that in a letter.

Also, thanks for the advice, Hikergirl!

If you have credit card statement or the like showing you guys were in the same location at the same time that’ll work as well.

You drive to KS? I live in Lethbridge and used to fly down to visit hubby when he was in Lawrence because I thought it was way too far for me.

No the affidavit of support is not needed to be notarized.

Hell yeah I did. That's cool he was in Lawrence. Was he attending KU or something? My girlfriend and I have been there! We wanna move there it's like, the greatest city I dunno. Also I drove 'cause I was on a student exchange, so being without my car would have been pretty shitty.

I have a credit card statement showing I've been in her hometown, but she doesn't have a corroborating statement because she doesn't have a credit card? She's also here with me so our access to her documents are kinda limited. She might have a bank statement showing deposits or withdrawals that line up with my credit card statement. My credit card statement, however, shows obvious evidence of like, elongated residence. Also, I have bank statements in my name that went to her US residence. Also, I have a social security card that was issued in August. She also has a "Visitor's record" right now, which is this full-page printout from the Canadian Border stating that she is, in fact, currently in Canada (you have to give it back when you leave). However, we don't have a matching set of credit card statements necessarily showing that we bought something at the exact same place at the exact same time? I dunno. It seems like that would be pretty redundant though considering I have mail addressed to her current legal residence. I dunno. What do you think?

I meant the affidavit that Rascal proposed, consisting of a friend or family vouching for us having met.

Also, I have some color photos printed of us. What should I mount them on, if anything? Should I tape them to a piece of paper or something?

Not sure about that. But it would be more official and weighty if it is notorized.

No you dont need to get these notarized. Signing and dating them should be fine. Thats all we did.

If you have friends/ family writing affidavits for you, confirming they know you are a couple etc. then they need to get these notarized by the a public notary .. maybe the local courthouse. As the notary will witness them signing their affidavit before stamping it.

He was a Network Admin at Baker University just south of Lawrence. I really liked Lawrence and there’s a Brit store there where you can pick up Smarties and some of the tastes of home. As well a World Market store where you can get some more familiar food there (Kinder Chocolate). They are definitely Jayhawk crazy there!

What you have listed in your first post and above actually sound pretty good to me. Try and scan or photocopy her Visitor’s Record before she goes home so you have that as well. Canadians aren’t as highly scrutinized from what I read on the board.

Are you a Westerner or an Easterner? If you are a Westerner you will interview in Vancouver (medical in Surrey). If East, then Montréal for the interview and Toronto or Montreal for the medical.

I'm from Western Canada. Saskatchewan, in specific. I already did photocopy the visitor's record and stuff ya.
