Police certificate and former name

My Chinese wife has a former name, and has obtained a notary certificate showing the current name and former name. She also obtained a police certificate with no criminal record, but the certificate only shows her current name (even though her former name is on file). Does she need to have both former name and current name on the police certificate? The Public Notary office told her that the notary certificate showing her current name and former name should be enough, but I just wanted to see if anybody has similar experience. Thanks in advance.

All I can add is what we did. My wife was married before also so we obtained 2 police reports one in her maiden name and the other in her married name.
