Hello Friends,

I am getting ready to send the original docs to NVCand woryying about sending Original Marriage certificate to NVC. I know some advocates have the stamps with the prints like "Attested and True copy" and followed by thier designation. If we get signed by such advocate on the copy and send that copy to NVC, would NVC accept the doc? Please share your experience on this. As I mentioned, if I loose the original Marriage certificate in the express mail or in subsequent moves from NVC to Consulate, then we will be in trouble to get the original certificate again. Also, they are accepting the copy of the Passport pages, would not they accept the attested/noterized copy of marriage certificate? Did any one has this experience? Again, than you for the information and help from your side.

If they ASK for the original, they WANT the original. It will be returned to you. If they DON'T ask for the original, DON'T send the original; it will not be returned unless you submit an expensive form requesting them to dig through the files and return it.

Send the originals through express mail,if you are not comfortable sending the originals, send them copies from the ISSUING agency,in your case wherever you got your marriage certificate. Do not send attested copies from anywhere else, you will receive an RFE

Copies from the issuing agency are treated the same as originals, yes. Good point.

NVC doesnt accept attested/notarized copy of the required docs.

They only accept original/certified. To get a certified copy, you must have to get it from same office where you got your original one. In India, alot of officials do not understand " certified " term, and they rather prefer to give duplicate original copy and it is much easier to get.

The best suggestion that I can share, you should submit the original docs as required by NVC to avoid any delay.
