Renewing Tourist Visa: U.S. Embassy in Colombia

Hi all, I was wondering If I (U.S. Citizen) could get some advise from you guys.

My ex fiance has the appointment/interview to renew her tourist visa next week.

She has (I believe it expires this month) a five year visa. She traveled to the U.S.

five or six times in total. Last time, she came for a small vacation and I proposed

and we got engage. We know each other since high school and we didn't want to

stay apart anymore. So the plan was to stay in the U.S. and get married two months

before the six months permission she had to stay.

So we moved to our own place, got a marriage license, and filled all the applications

(I-130 and I-485) to have them ready. Because she was going to stay alone at home

while I was at work we decided to register her at local technical school for some

english classes for which she was really excited. We paid as a non-resident (way more).

She attended like three and half months.

Unfortunately, things didn't workout and to cut it short she left the country on the

last day of the six months period. She had a hard time adjusting to the culture and

it wasn't because of the language. She is good at it. It was more because of the culture

and the family being back home.

Now she is going to renew her visa because she thinks the U.S. is a beautiful country

and wants to visit other cities. She is going to the embassy next week with her whole

family that are also renewing.

My questions are:

1. What should she say when they ask her about staying for the exact six months?

Just tell them she was going to get married but didn't work out?

2. Should she mention the school when they ask her "what did she do during this

period?" Will they have any records of her attending a school?

What do you guys recommend or suggest to do/say?

Thank you very much for your time,

Gagr

1. She should always tell the truth. However, she should emphasize that she left before her authorized stay was up

2. Yes, the school probably asked her for her passport and visa#, the consulate probably already knows, if they ask, she should tell the truth

good luck

Hi "canadian_wife" thank you for replying.

I agree. She is not trying to hide anything

so she should tell the truth. Thank you for

suggesting to make emphasis on the leaving

date.

About mentioning the school if asked "What

did you do during the six months" I don't

know if it's necessary to bring it up. What

if they don't have that info and bringing it

up complicates things. But again, how do you

know that? I guess it's safer to say it. The

thing is that sometimes they don't even give

you a chance to explain.

Thanks again "canadian_fife"!

Anybody else have anymore suggestions?
