yeah! it's a civil war.i totally agree with this opinion.the iraqis killed every day double several times the number of the dead among the occupying forces.if we think how to help solve the matter, we won't find a solution.simply coz it's a 14 centuries old conflict.may be we need another 14 centuries to solve it. the civil war in the US was over slavery,that's why the solution was simple! ending slavery.the civil war in iraq is over RELIGION.we have two muslim sects hating one another to death.one supported by Iran while the other is supported invisibly by gulf states...ending religion doesn't sound like a solution to me.time will tell...

You miss the point here peezey. They, the terrorists, have been on a long pre-election killing spree to turn the outcome of our elections in their favor; they see the democrats as the likely people to pull out of IRAQ and hand them victory.

Wasn't sure if you were replying to me - that articles I linked to illustrate the broad range of pressures that the news media is subjected to, from many different quarters.

Certainly it does manifest itself in some sort of political bias - but I don't even see that as a major issue. General reporting standards, not bias, are what determines the truth and reliability of a particular source.

I wouldn't say a newspaper as a whole has a bias, but corporations are hiring conservatives, who insert (by accident) a great deal of bias into the news. Then people think the paper is liberal because the opinion page often is. Most other journalists I know find that political bias is the single greatest barrier to truth in reporting.

Your average major newspaper is not at all influenced by advertising, for exmaple, although I'm sure that affects other forms of media.

I think there are many pressures that affect the truth and reliability of the news media. Media ownership is probably the biggest - and has the most wide-ranging impact.

Within that framework, journalists do have professional ethical standards to uphold. I find it surprising that people expect 'objective' reporting - I don't think that is, or has ever been the case.

If we're talking specifics, we get into murky waters - with the Plame Affair for instance.
