Couple of Questions

Hi there,

Okay so for filling out the I-864 (Affidavit of support form) - I'm assuming I don't have an alien registration number? (I should mention that I am living in the UK (UKC) and still awaiting my I-130 to be approved. (Just trying to make sure we know exactly how the forms are to be filled out ahead of time)

Also, under Part 3, which box would my husband select (he is going to sponsor me along with his mom who will also be a sponsor for me) - Does that mean he would check 'No'(Applicable only in cases with 2 joint sponsors)? (also,on the I-864 that his mom fills outs in part 1 would she check 'I am the only joint sponsor'?

Also, I'm a little confused with the Household size questions (He lives at his mom's right now) - Would that mean he has a 'parent with the same principal residence who are combining their income with yours by submitting Form I-864A, enter the number here' (Since his mom is a joint sponsor?)

Sorry some of these questions might seem silly - but you know how it is, one teeeny mistake can set you back weeks!

Also, I know it will be my husband (the USC) who completes this form not me, however I'm doing the research for him because he is the world's biggest procrastinator and otherwise it would never get done haha!

Thanks in advance guys!

Cat x

Oh, P.s. I know I can't get my medical done until I have my NVC number. However, I know I'm going to need a few vaccinations - can I be prepared and get those done NOW, ahead of time? Or do I need to wait and get them done at the London medical place?

I'm not much help with the AOS items but I can offer some advice about medical.

For me, because I did not have evidence of all my vaccinations I coordinated with my family doctor to bring everything up-to-date HOWEVER, in doing so I am now having to repeat one of my shots because the panel doctor insists that the tetanus shot be done within 4 weeks of my exam. To be this is nonsense since I had a booster in November. But because I don't have proof of my PREVIOUS dates of that particular vaccination they are going to insist I do it AGAIN closer to my medical. My own family physician won't do it, obviously, since she just gave me one so I will have to take a letter to another clinic to have it done. IT IS VERY STUPID but the rules are the rules.

So my advice on that regard is to gather whatever evidence you have of previous vaccinations. I personally had titres done to make sure I was immune to certain parts since I didn't have old health files. And then updated what was missing.

I would contact the office of the panel physician that you will visit and find out exactly what THEY want. My location in Toronto has their own site that offered a list of what vaccinations were needed based on age. It is myself and two children so each of us has different requirements. Although it is a different office than yours, here's the link anyway http://www.panelphysicians.com/Pages/Immunizations.htm as it might give you some idea of what to expect. You can contact yours specifically. The nurse at mine took the time to go over every detail with me so that I could prepare ahead of time and have nothing missing.

I have heard that you MUST be in the states within 6 months of the medical exam if being processed through the embassy in London. Many other countries give you 6 months from when they actually issue the visa (after the interview).

This could cause you problems if you get stuck in the NVC stage for any reason. I think it's better to wait.

I would definitely apply for the police clearance certificate early, if you haven't already. It took us a month to get ours.

As for AOS - husband should check the box that states he is the petitioner on his I-864 form and your joint sponsor should check the box "I am the only joint sponsor", as long as there is only one, on their I-864 form. You must submit two I-864 forms, one for your husband and one for the sponsor.

I doubt you have an alien reg # or social security number. You wouldn't have these if you have never lived in the US before. Just write 'none' for those questions.

I had the same issue with household size. My mother was our joint sponsor and my adult sister still lives at home with her. My mom did not include her in the household size because she does not claim her as a dependant on her tax returns, which means my mom is not financially supporting her. If my mom did claim her as a dependant (and was thus financially supporting her) then she would need to earn more income. Guidelines on household size and financial requirements can be found on uscis website in a form called I-864p. Hope this answers your question. And don't worry, there are no silly questions. The process stresses all of us out sometimes! good luck x
