My husband had his name changed on his birth certificate as a child, the change is on his birth certificate and all his documents since, do I need to include his previous name (his mother switched his last name from his father's to her maiden name when they divorced).

Also if I change my name during the processing of the I130 is that okay? I'm planning on hyphenating my husband's last name with my own, and would like to do it sooner rather than later, but understand it takes time and I don't want to wait to submit my I130 and so on paperwork.

Just an FYI, the IO at our interview stated they dislike hyphenated names, don't know why. You could add yours as a middle. It is your choice.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Well I'm a feminist, and I don't want to change my last name to his (as well my first name and last name are alliterative and i really don't want to lose that). One of the reasons I married my husband is because we're both feminists... and I'd be very upset betraying that.

It's your choice on how you want to set your name up (you can hyphenate if you wish). What one IO says at an adjustment of status interview (the type of interview bigdog was referring to) could be nothing more than the opinion of that one individual or even just that one field office. If they don't like something, they can make it an official policy in writing and if they don't want to do that, then if they don't like it.....too bad.
