Democratic Senators want Obama to take away Congress's Power of the Purse

The trillion dollar coin - while legal - is indeed insane. It's absurd. I've said that repeatedly. But so is a Congress looking to deliberately plunge the US and world economy into a deep crisis just because they can. The insanity of the Tea Party crazies that want to bring the US and world economy as a bargaining chip to the table MUST be met with an equally insane bargaining chip. That is what the trillion dollar platinum coin is. The Tea Party crazies give up on the idea to hold the US and world economy hostage and Obama will have the coin melted. Then they can talk.

I think there is a bit too much hyperbole in the whole conversation. For one, the debt service runs about $300B a year, and there are sufficient revenues not to "default" on the debt, it is not going to happen. Second, even after the the US debt rating was reduced by Standards and Poor, and that other firm nobody cars about, or even heard about other than they are under investigation for certain irregularities, the US Treasuries had a boom year last year, and we are still borrowing money on the cheap.

As for blaming the Tea Party for all the woes since the debt skyrocketed under Obama's watch, you forget the Republicans only regained control of one House two years ago. Harry has been there the entire time, as gatekeeper, doing a wonderful job, making sure nothing of substance makes it to the President's desk.

Money has nowhere to go. For now. Another round of uncertainty and job creation will once again stall - as it did last time around in 2011 - the economy will grow more slowly as will revenues for the treasury and hence the debt will increase only more. NOTHING is accomplished with this ignorant, juvenile bullshite the Tea Party crazies are playing with the debt ceiling.

The Democrats have reached out time and again. The President has been more than willing to strike a deal. Tea Party crazies are ideological purists incapable of governing. That's the situation we have.
