Hello everyone,

So I have a question about this tourist visa I want to file for my in laws so that they can visit the United States from Vietnam. My questions are do I need to file the I-134 form? A couple of people whom I spoke with told me that I must file this form along with the DS-160 so I wanted to ask if this was mandatory to do? Another one is do I need to buy 2 plane tickets before the interview or could I wait until they get their visas to visit? The last question is how long will it usually take in order for them to get a visa interview over Vietnam? I appreciate any answers I can get thanks for your time.

the I-134 form (affidavit of support) is not mandatory, although if you can provide one when they apply, it might help. i say "might" because it is really up to your in-laws to provide to the consul on their interview, sufficient/strong ties to their country for them to return. everyone applying for a tourist visa is assumed to have immigrant intent and it is up to the applicant to prove otherwise. nothing you can really do but submit that I-134 if you wish, but it's not gonna be a big determining factor if your in-laws are granted a visa or not.

as far as the tickets, i'd wait for them to get their visas first before buying one. as for how long it would take, it depends on the local embassy in vietnam. hope this helps.
