Hi All,

I appreciate your response in this query. I have filed N-400 on September, 2012 and done Fingerprint on Oct 3, 2012 and received Yellow letter on Nov 6 stating I need to bring Drivers license during interview. Still my online status is stucked at "initial review" My field office is Chicago, IL and I know the office is very slow. I checked the processing time today and currently they are processing for May 19, 2012. This processing date does not seem right to me as I have read on online that people who have filed after May have already taken oath from Chicago field office.

Since my online status have not even turned into "in line for interview" yet, looks like I will not get interview letter before mid-January, 2013. So If I leave US to celebrate Christmas and marriage anniversary with my family on mid-December and come before early January 2013, does this travel effects me during interview? In total, I will spend 14 days outside US. Does it effect my pending N-400 application?

I am in deep confusion, my heart is divided into two sides to make this decision, One side of my heart says lets go home as you will not get letter from Chicago office within two weeks while another side of my heart days what if you get letter from USCIS with 7 days notice for interview after you leave for home?

Thanks

I just passed my interview in the Chicago office today. My priority date was July 20th. It took exactly 90 days from when I was place in line for an interview to getting an interview date. You get approximately one months notice for your interview. You should be fine to leave the US to celebrate Christmas, but to be safe, have someone check your mail and let you know if and when you get the interview date. Being out of the country 2 weeks will have no bearing to your application. I am a Flight Attendant and since July 20 when my application was submitted, I had an additional 35 days and 12 trips out of the country. I just presented the officer an updated list and he amended my application. No problem! Hope that helps!

Hi Poolmon,

Thank you very much so much for your response. Dont know why Chicago office is so slow, may be they have more application as compared to other field offices. Would you mind to share your interview experience?

Thank you
