I was watching CBS nightly news tonight and with George Bush heading to India this week, they are doing a week long series on India and its culture/economy etc.

Tonight's was about the huge Indian based software giant Infosys (and other high tech firms like it) that are pooling talent within India and even from countries like the US. People are willing to work for these companies because they rival Silicon Valley, but with even better learning opportunities, better promotions and lower cost of living. Of course, this is just one example.

But what I was wondering, has anyone ever considered just picking up and moving to their SO's country? If you could, would you do it? If you were comfortable with the culture, no language barrier and could find a job there?

If so, how can you do that as an USC? Do you need a work permit for that country? And your SO loses their immigration rights (and greencard) to the US since their main domicle is not the States? Do you then re-do the visa process when/if you ever decide to move back to the US (lol, I guess it would be a shorter process at that point since you could do DCF)?

Yeah, I thought about it and would have liked to do it if James didn't want to live in the US so much. It could be better in that he already has a job there and is established there but we would either have to wait another year for me to finish college or I'd have to leave with a year left, and it would be hard to get all of my family over there for a wedding. I would have loved to live in England for a few years though and travel around Europe....that's gonna have to wait until retirement now :) I wouldn't have quite as much culture shock as most places and I've been there a few times, so I think I could do well there. My mom would miss me too much though :P (But her biggest dream is to go to England, so she wouldn't mind having someone to stay with over there!)
